Broad Ripple Historic Home Tour

September 23rd, 2010

I, for one, am looking forward to this Saturday’s Broad Ripple Historic Home Tour. Although I only “officially” lived in Broad Ripple for about a year (plus the occasional night), there are some very sweet homes in the area. And … for only ten bucks I can finally get past their front doors!

Running from 10 am until 6 pm this Saturday the 25th, this year’s tour is the sixth annual and is featuring ten very distinctive, historically unique homes. The homes are between 70 and 120 years old, and each has a very unique, fascinating story to tell. From my experience, that’s the reason to go. See, this isn’t just about enjoying the architecture and stealing the latest in remodeling ideas – it’s about each home’s individual story. This is kind of like a brush with greatness thing. Whether it’s a ghost story, a heartwarming tale from former owners, or that George Washington slept there, each is its own, and that why I’m going. I still want to find a previous owner of a 1920’s house I owned for several years. On the wall inside the door to the attic were scrawled the words, “A victim of fire”.  A joke? Maybe. I choose to believe there’s a great story there. Plus, it was across the street from where John Hiatt grew up. See? One house, two stories!

Which Broad Ripple homes are on the tour this year?

  • 6511 Riverview Drive
  • 6060 Park Avenue
  • 6007 Broadway Street
  • 5946 Guilford Avenue
  • 6130 Guilford Avenue
  • 6112 Haverford Avenue
  • 6026 Haverford Avenue
  • 6017 Indianola Avenue
  • 1315 Kessler Boulevard East Drive
  • 5957 Norwaldo Avenue

Go. Do it. It’s better than doing nothing. And by Saturday evening you’ll have a bunch of stories to tell.

What’s Broad Ripple, you ask? Broad Ripple (or Broad Ripple Village, as the locals call it) is the eclectic/Bohemian side of Indianapolis, along with some other very distinctive neighborhoods like Fountain Square. It’s one of only six Indy areas designated as an Indianapolis Cultural District. Here’s the sales pitch: If you’d like to get in on the act and own one of these incredible unique homes and learn to tell its story, see what’s for sale now.

Indianapolis Celebrates Another Successful Brickyard 400

July 26th, 2010

The traveling community that is NASCAR leaves Indianapolis after the 17th running of the Brickyard 400 on Sunday. I enjoyed the race with friends, family, and what was reported as a “relatively small crowd” of about 140,000 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The Town of Speedway, within the city limits of Indianapolis and where the track is located, was a gracious host as always. Not to mention the fabulous traffic coordination between Speedway’s, Indianapolis’, and the State’s finest – 140,000 people and we were home in 29 minutes! Even with attendance down, the city and its leaders recognize the huge economic impact the Brickyard has on the local economy. Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard was interviewed at the Speedway talking about just that…and the that he’s rooting for home-grown Indiana’s Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart! The reality is that racing is in the blood of many Hoosiers. The sights, the sounds, and the smell of rubber and racing fuel are all a part of the experience. Jamie McMurray, the driver of the #1 car, won the race and celebrated in victory lane with his team. At the same time many of us in central Indiana celebrated right along with them knowing we had again succeeded in hosting a great event, showcased our wonderful city to many, and put dollars to work in our community that will help all.

Indianapolis Indians to Host "Carpenter Realtors® Night"

July 20th, 2010

Monday, August 9th is “Carpenter Realtors® Night” at Victory Field as the Indianapolis Indians AAA baseball team hosts our agents and their families and friends for a night at the Ol’ Ballgame.  In cooperation with the Indianapolis Star newspaper, Carpenter has challenged its agents to increase their activity levels and hold record numbers of Open Houses during the month of July.  For every Open House held, the agent receives a reserved box seat for the Monday night game.  Based on the results of the first three Open House Sundays in July, we are anticipating over 800 to attend the August 9th game.

Flyers, posters and penants have been distributed to each Carpenter office to promote the challenge.  Individual branches as adding to the promotion with fun activities at their weekly sales meetings.  Some branches are passing out Crackerjacks™ or baseballs to agents for each Open House held.

The results speak for themselves.  Carpenter agents and managers are meeting the July Open House “challenge” with record Open House activity.

July is NASCAR Month in Indy

July 12th, 2010

Indianapolismotorspeedway.com

As we have for the past 6 years, my family gathered in Joliet IL this past weekend to watch the NASCAR races at Chicagoland Speedway.  The sea of tailgate camps and flags representing favorite drivers reminded me that soon we’d be welcoming this spectacle in our town. Indianapolis is synonymous with racing, but this month it’s not Helio, Danica, and Tony Kanaan.   NASCAR invades the Brickyard in the summer with qualifying on Saturday July 23rd and the actual race on Sunday July 24th. A full schedule of the events can be found here. It is hard to believe that this will be the 16th running of the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard™ at The Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The IMS is a special place for many and a huge economic engine in our city. Many central Indiana families’ livelihoods are tied to the handful of major racing events that occur at the speedway each year. The IMS is located in the Town of Speedway situated in the near west side of Indianapolis.

The Town of Speedway, though within Indianapolis, has its own town council, police and fire departments, and school system. It’s a family friendly neighborhood with a storied history and home to one of the crown jewels of our great state. As race weekend draws closer I’ll provide some insight into some of the activities that surround the event and what it is like to attend a race with 250,000 other fans!

June 25th, 2010

On June 18th Carpenter Realtors hosted its 17th annual GFC Golf Outing at Pebble Brook Golf Course in Noblesville, IN to support the Gennesaret Free Clinic. GFC is comprised of local health care professionals that are committed to providing competent, accessible, and compassionate health care to central Indiana’s indigent and homeless. Carpenter Realtors’ agents and staff support GFC with fundraising efforts in its real estate branch office throughout the year, culminating with our annual golf outing. Over the years, Carpenter has raised over $900,000 in support of GFC and its mission. Though the economy has challenged many, this year was no exception, and Carpenter’s business partners step up to the plate and made the event a success. Thanks to those partners, sponsors, and golfers, this year’s GFC Outing will raise approximately $25,000 and provide much need health care services to the area’s needy.

To learn more about GFC, visit their website at www.gennesaret.org, or contact me at .
